Recently, a senior neighbor announced to me that he and his wife were leaving the Bay Area and moving across country to Virginia to be closer to family. I asked him what he planned to do with the old Toyota Siena he had in his driveway. He said he'd "probably just get rid of it." I told him about Cars 2nd Chance and how his favored charity could reap a big benefit, while he got a great tax deduction, all for next to no effort on his part.
In short order, we had the paperwork done, Catholic Charities signed up as a partner, and C2C swept in and took the van away. Shortly afterward, Catholic Charities received a check for about $1,500, and my friend was able to deduct $3,000 from his taxes at the end of the year. He was very pleased about the results, and to know that other Bay Area charities will be supported with proceeds from that donation thanks to Rotary's involvement.
