Why should you donate your Car?

What does hope look like? Sometimes it looks like a donated car. There are plenty of reasons to give one away — a tax deduction, a clear driveway, one less thing to maintain. Any of those is reason enough to make the call. But it helps to know why it matters on the receiving end.

A donated vehicle can be the difference between a single parent keeping a job and losing it. It can be the difference between a wildfire survivor rebuilding a routine and staying stuck. Every car contributes to somebody's next chapter.

What a lost car really costs

Picture leaving home ahead of a wildfire. You load the truck with your pets, some clothes and a few things you could not stand to lose. You leave the other family cars behind because you want everyone in one vehicle. You tell yourself you will be back in a day.

The next morning you see your street on the news and understand that you will not be. Everything is gone except the fact that your family got out. That is the point at which transportation stops being a convenience and becomes the thing standing between a household and its income.

That story is a composite, drawn from what survivors of the Paradise fire described. There were hundreds like it, and thousands of vehicles lost with them. Families still commuting into the area need a way to get to work.

Every car has a path

Some donated cars are in good enough shape to go straight to a person who needs one. Others are sold, and the proceeds fund the programs our nonprofit partners run. Neither path is a waste — a car that will never drive again can still pay for groceries, shelter or tuition.

Never underestimate what your vehicle can do for someone else. The most valuable thing you are handing over is not metal. It is hope.
